These luxurious, rare chopsticks are made of a piece of bamboo with three bamboo joints. The wood near the root is carefully selected and carved by a chashaku (tea scoop) craftsman, and then lacquered to a caramel color with the suri-urushi technique. The smooth ridges are beautiful and fit comfortably in the hand. The bamboo joints are compared to life's milestones, and as a good-luck charm, it is often given as a gift for weddings, birthdays, and longevity celebrations.

Suri-urushi is a technique in which lacquer is applied by brushing it into the bamboo with a cloth soaked in lacquer. This coating method utilizes the fibers of the bamboo. It will change over time after years of use.
