The upward growing ume (plum) branches are considered a good omen. The pattern of ume blossoms is well balanced on the bowl. The three-dimensional outline is called "Ichichin-mori," a clay drawing technique created somewhat like piping on cakes.

The large bowl has blue while the small one has red plum blossoms in the top row and both lower rows are painted with light purple plum flowers. On the inside, the clay may turn red during firing in the kiln.
