Karigane is a type of Japanese green tea made primarily from the stems of high-quality tea leaves, particularly gyokuro or sencha. It is also known as kukicha (twig tea), though karigane specifically refers to kukicha made from premium teas. This karigane tea is blended with high quality matcha powder and genmai (roasted brown rice) which results in a comforting and relaxing tea.
TASTE NOTES
This tea is sweet and mellow; the genmai and matcha soften the green-edged character of the karigane. Together, these three elements are masterfully balanced, creating a creamy, vanilla-like, matcha-chocolatey flavor that makes it a great daily choice and a safe, welcoming option for guests.
HOW TO PREPARE
The tea goes three great steeps.
For the first infusion, use 5 g (0.17 oz) tea leaves, 80°C (176°F) 200 ml (6.8 fl oz) water and steep for 45 seconds. For the second brew, increase the temperature to 85°C (185°F) and steep for around 10 seconds. The third brew can be a longer steep (about 45 seconds) with a 85°C (185°F) water.
