A furoshiki is a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth.
It’s a square piece of fabric used to carry, wrap, and protect items—like gifts, clothes, lunch boxes, or groceries—by folding and tying it in different ways. Instead of using bags or paper, you reuse the same cloth over and over. During picnic season, it becomes both a stylish and practical accessory, unfolding into an elegant mat beneath your lunch once unwrapped.
Isa Monyo Reversible
This series features a special reversible technique, with the same pattern appearing on both sides in contrasting colors. It showcases exceptional craftsmanship and dyeing skills. The furoshiki features apricot blossoms. In Japan, apricot (or plum - ume) blooms earlier than most flowers, making it a traditional symbol of happiness and the arrival of spring.
Isa Monyo
The Isa Monyo Research Institute was founded by the late Kunio Isa. Today, many patterns and designs from the early Shōwa period (late 1940s) have been faithfully revived blending traditional techniques from that era with modern aesthetics.
